Sunlit Leaves [May. 18th, 2008|04:25 pm]

Sunlit Leaves, originally uploaded by talljoe.

I've posted some new photos. It's definitely been too longsince I last uploaded anything to Flickr, or indeed since I last seriously took photos. I think things will start to pick up a bit.

New Location [Jul. 25th, 2007|12:31 pm]
I've decided to move my LJ to a different location.  It's a self-hosted blog and gives me many more options than LJ.  It's also the first step to creating my photo gallery there.  You have to have an account on the new blog to post, but guess what!  If you have an LJ account you have an account on my blog.  When it asks for your "Open ID" just enter http://<ljname> It'll confirm that you want to link the accounts and then you'll be set to go!

Also, if you have a paid account you can add my feed to your friends list by going here:

Your History [Jul. 16th, 2007|06:51 pm]

In my office today we were discussing fine literature.  Well, kind of.  Anyway, I pull Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse out of my bag and show it to my friend saying "If you're bored, you can read this."  She asked who Hesse was and my office mate said "I think he was a Nazi.  One of the few that survived the Nazi trials."  Oooh.  That sounded interesting so off to Wikipedia I went.  Turned out he converted to Swiss citizenship and resisted the Nazi movement.  Darn, that's not nearly as interesting.  So I hit the [Edit] button and soon history was much more intriguing.

Did you know: FDR's paralysis was caused by Syphilis?  It wasn't?  Well it is now!

We Don't Need No Stinking....oh forget it [Jul. 16th, 2007|02:47 pm]

As is apt to happen on occasion, I forgot my badge at home.  I have the badge-holder but the badge is likely sitting on my desk from where I used it to dial in to work.

The temporary name stickers they give you have the time and date it was issued.  Now usually when someone forgets their badge it's a Monday morning, things are going wrong, and the person is totally behind schedule and has to walk around all day with an 11:17am timestamp.  Not me, I proudly display my 8:32am (which, incidentally, was when I noticed the badge was missing, I had already been in the office for half an hour).

The sticker announces I'm forgetful but the timestamp says I'm no slacker.

Schmap Selection [Jul. 15th, 2007|07:44 pm]

I've had two of my images selected for inclusion in the Schmap guides.  One for Seattle and one for San Francisco.  I don't get any money for it but it's pretty cool.

Reading List [Jan. 9th, 2007|11:59 pm]
If I ever run out of books to read I can always turn to Art Garfunkel. He has maintained a chronological list of every book he's ever read from June 1968 onwards. There are almost 1,000 books in the list and he has called out his 130+ favorites.

Book run [Dec. 27th, 2006|07:41 pm]
I stopped by Half Price Books and grabbed some of the items on my reading list. I purchased:

  • Demian by Herman Hesse

  • Contact by Carl Sagan

  • Winter's Tale by Mark Helprin

  • Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris

  • Lady Chatterly's Lover by D. H. Lawrence

  • The Manchurian Candidateby Richard Condon

The last two weren't on my list but I picked them up anyway and added them.

Grand total: $29.46 plus I got a free calendar out of the deal.

I have started on Demien.
